Brookes on top as Bennetts BSB Showdown decider gets underway

Friday, September 06 2019

2015 Bennetts British Superbike champion Josh Brookes topped the timings in free practice at Oulton Park today as the crucial Showdown decider weekend got underway, with three of the six spots left to be claimed in the 2019 title fight.

Brookes, fellow Be Wiser Ducati rider Scott Redding and Ducati privateer Tommy Bridewell have already confirmed their places in the Showdown, with Danny Buchan, Tarran Mackenzie and Andrew Irwin currently filling the remaining slots.

But a clutch of other riders can still make the cut so this weekend's three races - one tomorrow and two on Sunday - are certain to be hard-fought battles. Smiths Racing BMW's Peter Hickman sits just outside the six, trailing Honda's Irwin by a single point, with Xavi Forés just four points behind him in eighth.

The final Showdown six will be declared as the race three flag falls on Sunday, and they'll then compete over three rounds - Assen, Donington Park and Brands Hatch - for the 2019 title.
